As our last Kiwisport of the year we did Basketball, I has so much fun and thank you to the coaches that helped us! I would still only play Basketball as family friendly and not read competition!

Our task was to write our thoughts on BTS and to be honest about what we are writing! BTS is a Korean Boy Band who has the most views on YouTube in 24 hours! All 7 of them are from South Korea and their fan group name is 'BTS Army.'

For our third task in Literacy, we had to create our own diary based on a extraordinary day that was have experienced, this diary could be made up or a real life story. My diary is about the thoughts that was going through my head on the first day of school being a year 8. This task was inspired by 'The Diary Of Anne Frank!'

 For my next Literacy task, we all wrote our own morning routine and we translated it into Shakespearean English. My morning routine was made up and I really struggled to read the Shakespearean English version.

For Literacy today, one of our tasks were to make our own book cover of our favourite book. I chose the book 'Wonder' because it has a beautiful meaning behind it and it inspires a lot of people to be themselves and not to be ashamed.

For Cybersmart today, we looked into how to write a good comment and what the qualities are for a good comment. After looking into what makes a great comment, we watched a video made by Point England School to see what tips they can give us about making a good comment.

U.R.U - Manaiakalani Film Festival

Tee, Coree, May and I have created a film for Manaiakalani Film Festival and luckily we got chosen for our film to be on the big screen today! Our film is about 6 different people being different cultures but they are still the same around each other and they love to spend time together! 

Wherever you are, whoever you are, U.R.U and don't change for anyone else.

My Symbol!

Before Room 12 starts their official Art Exhibition mural, we all made symbols which we think represents ourselves and we put geometric art in the background. I chose to draw a Snow Globe for my main drawing but their is a whole lot more symbols inside the Globe which represents me perfectly.

Kupe and James Cook Venn Diagram

 

For LCS today, we watched 2 videos, 1 about James Cook and his adventure to New Zealand and the other about Kupe and his adventure to New Zealand. Kupe and James Cook are both very different people but with very important roles, they both have one thing in common, they made history to New Zealand! They are both very different but yet make such a good team!

Polynesians Arrival To New Zealand

 

Todays video was about the first people who traveled to New Zealand and how the Polynesians settled in New Zealand. The first people to find New Zealand was chasing an octopus when they found New Zealand. 

Polynesian Wayfinders

 

Today is the first day of Term 4! This term we are looking into the history of New Zealand and the Polynesians. Our video today was about the Polynesians Wayfinders, how they found their way around the ocean and what they used to find their ways.

Term 4 starts today! Cultural Festival, Prize Giving, Graduation and Athletics are some of the things I am very excited for this term because I get to cheer on some of my friends and I get to participate in these amazing activities!

Poi Rakau

Room 12 got introduced to a new game called Poi Rakau. Poi Rakau is game where every person has a long stick and is standing in a circle, if the caller calls out "Whaka te Maui" than means you move left and if the caller calls out " Whaka te Matou" that means you move right. You have to try and get the stick before it hits and ground and make sure you don't push each other and each others stick. It was fun playing Poi Rakau with my class and I hope you try it with your class for Maori Language Week or for fun.

James Naismith!

For September, Room 12 is going to be looking more into Inventions, Inventors and Innovations! 

Me and Coree made a PowerPoint about the Inventor of Basketball - James Naismith!

James Naismith was challenged by the program director at YMCA to make a physical activity that athletes could train too while waiting and finishing sport seasons!

Tonga's Gold Tooth

Due to Tongan Language Week, the whole school had different tasks to complete. One of the tasks that I am sharing on my blog is the " Tonga's Gold Tooth." A lot of Tongans have about 2 - 3 teeth that is half or a quarter filled with golden covers. The story that I shared is not true but if you want to find out the truth behind the golden tooth, ask someone who has one and see if they know about the history or why they got one! I had a lot of fun this week with the Tongan Feed that was provided by the Glen Taylor School family and parents! Happy Tongan Language Week!

This recipe is a Panikeke/Keke Isite recipe for Tongan Language Week. Today we are having a Tongan feed and one of our activities are to recreate a recipe for Panikeke/Keke Isite! These Keke Isites are very yum and please try them at home for Tongan Language Week!

Week In Review

This week was the first week back at school and I had so much fun with my classmates and seeing them again!

Back To School Activities!

Today, Auckland is back into Level 2 and that means that Glen Taylor students are back at school! This diagram shows the difference and similarities of having real life lessons and lock down lessons.
I also have other difference like, when I am at school I get outside more often and run around but when we were in lockd own all I did was sit on my bed or the couch doing work or eating!

STEM Cards - Plane Creation & Cup Pyramid

For this weeks STEM Cards Challenges, I chose to do a Plane Creation which is made from a plastic bottle and two cardboard wings, and the other challenge I chose to do was a Cup Pyramid Challenge, where I used 10 cups and tried to make a Pyramid in under 30 seconds.

Both my Challenges were hard and successful, I made my Pyramid with only 1 second left and my Plane flew very well.

Daily 5 - Work On Writing

For Daily 5 today, I did Work On Writing, Word Work and Independent Reading. 

This is my Work On Writing work which is from Once Upon A Picture. 

I chose this picture to do because when I saw this picture, I already had a story in mind and I loved the setting in this picture.

Interview With Marc Lepage Reflection!

A good friend of Mr Niks came into our Morning Class Call and talked to us about his condition and his job! Marc Lepage is a Game Developer and his specialty is with the Sound in games. He has a terrible condition called Cystic Fibrosis which affects the lungs. 

Marc Lepage has helped with a whole lot of games and he is a very very successful person in my eyes!

TED Talk - Social Media

This TED Talk was all about Social Media and how some random videos that people posted not expecting anything, went viral just by 1 famous person tweeting about it. 

Allocca works with YouTube and he looks after the trending side of YouTube, his job is too watch a whole lot of YouTube videos and figure out what it trending everyday.

STEM Cards - Small Umbrella & Egg Drop

This week we have started doing STEM Cards. STEM stands for - Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. There are over 54 activities to choose from! 

I chose to do the Small Umbrella and Egg Drop activities. I learnt that art and crafts can be very very hard especially when you have to use your imagination and no instructions or video to learn from.

I chose these activities because I had the materials to do them and they looked very interesting!

My Personal Profile #2

Instead of knowing more about my hobbies and what I like to do in my spare time,

here is what I find most important to me if I had to leave home suddenly and what I would miss most!

While doing this task I learnt that thinking about what you are and what aren't going to take on a sudden adventure is very hard to think about especially if you want to take many things.

Back To Online Classes!

 

Auckland is now back into Level 3 Lockdown and that means that schools are closed but there will be online classes! Today was the first day of online classes for me and I will be sharing a lot more learning on my blog!

Week In Review

Narartive - The class was split up in 4 groups and got a piece of paper of different Literacy Devices. One group got Similes, another got Alliteration, one got Hyperbole and the last group got Personification. After we got learnt what our Literacy Device means, we got to the other groups and teach them.

LCS - My stop motion animation is coming together slowly, I have used one of my personal teddy bears as my host and showed all the different things that introduce me.

Technology - We are still working on how to make our MBot move, make sound and sense objects.

This week is also Cook Island Language Week and to celebrate, Pasifika Pearls performed a danced today.

Week In Review

This week I have learnt more about Percentages, Fractions and Decimals. 

This week we celebrated Cook Island Language Week by changing our bell to a Cook Island song and watching some videos on how and what Cook Islands do and how they live.

We had special guest coming this week and showing us how to keep the environment safe and clean! They were called the Tread Lightly Caravan!

McDonald Story Arc

This term in Writing, we are learning about Narrative Writing.

A Story Arc is very important in Narrative Writing because it shows the structure of the story.

SMART Goals Term 3

My SMART Goal for Term 3, is kind of the same as Term 2's goal.

 I still haven't achieved this goal but I still hope that I will.

Stop Motion Script

This term our Learn, Create & Share topic is " You are you, You belong." 

With this topic we have a task to make a Stop - Motion Script about it.

Coree, Tee, May and I are making a animation about a student who finally finds the courage to stand up for himself with the help of his friends.

Zodiacglyphic Numeral System

As an Extra for the Egyptian Numeral System, we made out own Numeral Systems and added some questions for people to solve!

My Ancient God

We learnt about the 10 Ancient Egyptian Gods, afterwards we created our own god and their purpose. My god is roaming Auckland, New Zealand standing up for what she thinks is right and helping others who were in her position back home. 

24 Hour Map

Using our 24 hour history. We made a Map on all the websites we visited. Each footprint equals 2 visits that day. The most most visits I had was to Google Maps and I had 110 visits.

Egyptian and Roman Numerals

For Maths, we had to translate Egyptian and Roman numerals to the numbers we use today. Did you know that it is good to know Egyptian numerals for Mummy Week and it is also good to know Roman numerals for reading clocks and the Bible.

Technology - Robotics

For Tech today we played Hour Of Code, there were 12 levels but I only finished 9. It was hard work and I learnt a lot about it! The Hour Of Code game was based on Minecraft and it was hard to keep your materials to a small limit.

Leafs! 

We just recently started Technology again and I am in Science! It is very exciting for me because we are learning about Plants - Food Makers. On our first day we watched a video on how leafs grow and live. Leafs need 3 very important things to grow, Sunlight, Water and Carbon Dioxide. Using these 3 things Leafs make Glucose and Oxygen that helps them grow and stay healthy just like how humans need food and water to survive!

Koko Laisa Aka Cocoa Rice Recipe!

Koko Laisa is 1 of my favourite Samoan foods! It is sweet and chewy. I love it when my family makes Koko Laisa and it would probably be finished in seconds with my family. There are 2 different ways of making Koko Laisa, one is the Samoan way and the other way is the English way. For the English way, all you have to do it change the Koko Samoa into some kind of English Koko. I am pretty sure that is easy to find at your local dairy!

Traditional Samoan Food

For Learn, Create and Share today our task was to make a Google Drawing on 7 - 10 traditional food from your culture. My culture is Samoan and these are the foods I picked. I don't really like any of these foods except Koko Laisa. My parents and elders from my family really like all these foods and would eat them anywhere!

My New Home Learning Site!

We have started to create a new home learning site, to show what we have completed during this lock down and how we felt! I am very excited because it is my 3rd site that I am making and I love decorating google drawings, slides and sites! I will share the full site once it is done, I can't wait till it is finished and able to be shared.

Goals For The Holidays

I really hope that I accomplish these goals over the holidays so I can make myself feel better and so I know that I can tick these off my to - do list!

Hour Of Code

This was my first time ever playing Hour Of Code and I learnt a lot about coding and building things on computer! 

It was a great experience and I highly recommend it to other students or teachers! 

The 7/8 grade is very hard on Hour Of Code so be ashamed if you play the 2/3 grade because I did and I still struggled! 

A Funny Situation

As a challenge, Mr Victor asked us to make a 3 - Framed Comic Strip about a funny situation that has been set in our house! Mine was about asking my family about funny situations because we brought up memories and has a good laugh about them!
